Big Idea 1: Improve the communication of information that you teach by using images
Why: Information that is presented in both oral and visual modes is six-times more likely to be recalled.

Things to try:

Activity: Enhance digital images with text
1. Download images from the Web. Try some of these photo sites. Try to download only copyright friendly images.
2. Save your photos on your desktop.
To download a file (including images, audio or video), right-click on the file's name or icon and choose "Download linked file as..." , "Save link as..." or "Save Target As..." If your mouse does not have right-click button, hold down the ctrl key while clicking on the file's name or icon then choose "Download linked file as..." , "Save link as..." or "Save Target As..."
3. Enhance Images by adding text
Use Picnik to add labels to your photos. Once you are done enhancing your photos save them again to the desktop.

1. Click through the slides above and note the differences in the before and after. Continue through the samples slides to get a better idea of how your slides can be improved. Discuss what you noticed about the "better" slides.

3. Open PowerPoint and create a few slides that express some of the big ideas or concepts that you teach in your classroom.
Big Idea 2: Have students repeatedly re-process the information taught
Why: In order for information to be stored in long term memory, it needs to be processed repeatedly and in elaborate ways.

1. Have student create non-linguistic representation using graphic organizers, comic book generators, or digital cameras.
2. Have students record a summary of the information that was taught using Gcast.
