Projectors, Document Cameras, and Laptops - Oh My!

For Apple computers, visit Apple's Knowledge Base.

This is specific to the AveryMedia Document Camera (doc cam), the Dell Latitude d620, and the Epson EZPro. Most of this will be similarly applicable to other hardware.

Configuration 1- Using the Doc cam to toggle between the laptop screen and doccam.

Hardware setup: Laptop vga into Doc cam's vga in.  Doc cam vga out into projector vga in.

Software setup: Right click on the desktop and select Graphic Properties. Select Extended Desktop. Make the Notebook Primary and Monitor (your projector) as secondary. Select the side menu, Display Settings.  Select the tab for the Notebook and adjust resolution as needed. Do the same for the Monitor. (Some teachers find success with 1280x720.)

Extended Desktop: Imagine a second monitor hooked up to your laptop and it sits just to the right of your notebook screen. If you grab the titlebar (top most part of the window) and drag off the laptop screen to the right, the window will appear from the left of the projector's screen.

Configuration 2- Using the Projector to toggle between the laptop screen and doccam.

Hardware setup: Laptop vga to the vga on the projector. Using the supplied S-video cable that comes with the Avery Media doc cam, connect S-video on doc cam to S-video on projector.

Toggle between the laptop and doc cam by using the source button on the projector.

Capturing images with AveryMedia Doccam.

Hardware setup 1: Use supplied USB cable that comes with Avery Media doc cam to connect doc cam to laptop.

After installing the Avery Media doc cam software, you can use the viewer software to see on your laptop what is under the camera. The software will show and capture still and video images.

Hardware setup 2: Do NOT connect the doc cam to the laptop via USB. The doc cam will still show images via the projector, but it can capture and display still images without being connected to the laptop.
